Myanmar to resume parliament session to deal with more bills

Myanmar's parliament on Tuesday announced Jan. 26 for the date of restarting the third session of the two houses of the parliament in Nay Pyi Taw to continue discussing bills submitted by parliament members.

The Union Parliament is made up of the House of Representatives (Lower House) and the House of Nationalities (Upper Houses).

At least a number of new bills are to be discussed which deal mainly with farmland management, ward or village-tract administration and environmental conservation, to amend the laws of the House of Nationalities, House of Representatives and region or state parliament as well as to amend some economic laws relating to foreign currency handling, custom tax and import and export, according to a local report.

The second session lasted from Aug. 22, 2010 to Nov. 25, 2011.

During the second session of the parliament, attended by 588 parliament members, a total of 15 bills were passed by the parliament and endorsed by President U Thein Sein to become laws which included some politics- and economy-related laws.

Among the politically-related laws are mainly the Law Amending the Union Election Commission Law, three respective laws amending the three-level parliament election laws, Labor Organization Law, Law Amending the Party Registration Law, Peaceful Gathering and Procession Law and Private School Registration Law.
