Thai police on Monday raided a commercial building in central Samut Sakhon province and seized explosive substance following a tip-off from a Lebanese terror suspect, Thai police chief Priewpan Damapong told local media.
The police brought 47-year-old Atris Hussein, who was arrested at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Thursday on suspicion of plotting terrorist attack in Bangkok, to a three-storey commercial building in Muang district, about 30 kilometers south of the capital Bangkok.
The Lebanese terror suspect told police that his group had kept some weapons and explosive material for terrorist attacks in the building.
The police chief refused to elaborate on the operation and reporters were not allowed to enter the building.
Thai government said it believed the suspect was a member of the Shiite group Hezbollah designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government.
Following his arrest, 14 nations including the U.S. have issued warnings to their citizens against traveling to Thailand. |
