Two young Swedish couples and their Thai driver were killed Wednesday morning when their rented car collided head-on with a six-wheel truck in south Thailand's Phang Nga Province, local media reported Thursday.

The Swedes were on their way to a popular diving destination in Chumphon Province to the north of Phang Nga. The police are hunting the truck driver who fled the scene, Phuket Gazette reported.

The killed Swedes are identified by their ID cards as Elin Marita Hedbris, 21; Frida Madeleine Falk, 22; Anders Tobias Larsson, 22 and Johan Olof Nikolas Svensson, 22, the report said.

The accident is the most fatal incident involving Swedes in Thailand since the 2004 tsunami disaster, it added.
