5.7-magnitude quake hits New Zealand's lower North Island |

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale rocked many parts of New Zealand's lower North Island on Friday morning, but no injures or damages have been reported so far.
New Zeaaland government geological agency GNS Science said the earthquake occurred at 7 a.m. local time (18:00 GMT Thursday), and was centred 90 km south of Opunake and 160 km northwest of Wellington with a depth of 200 km.
Seismologists said the quake was felt widely across the lower North Island and upper South Island.
Fire Service and police reported there had been no callouts following the jolt. |
