Thai police charge bomb suspect involved in Bangkok blasts
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-21 10:42

Thai police on Monday took the second bomb suspect, Mohammad Hazaei, to the Metropolitan Police Bureau for the first-time questioning and formally charged him of involvement in the Bangkok blasts on Feb. 14.

Hazaei, 42 year old, was detained at the country's main international airport last Tuesday while attempting to board a plane bound for neighboring Malaysia.

Deputy Metropolitan Police Chief Pol Gen Pansiri Prapawat, head of the investigation team, formally charged Hazaei together with other suspects three offences -- illegally assembling bombs, illegally having explosives in possession, and causing explosions that hurt other people.

Hazaei, however, denied all the charges against him.

According to Deputy National Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Jarumporn Suramanee, the DNA test matched Hazaei with bloods found in the rented house where the first bomb went off. However, the DNA test to find connection with another suspect 28-year-old Saeid Moradi, who lost both legs by accident from his own explosive device and is still hospitalized, has not yet been conducted, he added.

Thailand's Criminal Court has so far issued arrest warrants for five Iranians on various charges related to Tuesday's Bangkok bomb incidents. The first two suspects were Saeid Moradi and Mohammad Hazaei.

A third suspect identified as Masoud Sedaghatzadeh was arrested last Wednesday by Malaysian authorities in Kuala Lumpur. The Thai authorities are currently preparing paperwork for seeking the suspect's extradition.

The fourth suspect is a female Iranian identified as Rohani Leila. She reportedly rented the house for the group and returned to Iranian capital of Tehran several days before the explosions.

The fifth suspect was a Middle Eastern man who may have been involved in the blasts after CCTV camera footages showed him walking from the rented house at Sukhumvit 71's Soi Pridi Panomyong 31 where the first bomb exploded.

The bomb blasts that rock the capital of Thailand on last Tuesday injured five people including three Thai men, one Thai woman and Saeid himself.
