The ruling Pheu Thai Party on Thursday filed a petition with the Election Commission to request the Constitution Court to dissolve the opposition Democrat Party for allegedly violating the constitution and political party law.
According to the petition, Thaworn Senneam, a deputy leader and MP of the Democrat Party, had erected a large billboard in southern Songkhla province campaigning against the amendment of the constitution and Article 112 of the Criminal Code, which has been pushed ahead by Pheu Thai and other collation parties.
The EC was asked to investigate if this action was in violation of the constitution and Political Party Act.
If the investigation found the Democrat Party had violated the two laws, the Election Commission could ask the Constitution Court to dissolve the party, according to the petition. |
