Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-20 19:40

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met here on Tuesday with former Prime Minister of Japan Yukio Hatoyama during the latter's visit to Vietnam.

Dung welcomed the visit by Hatoyama, who is now President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, saying the Vietnam-Japan all-sided cooperation has finely developed.

As close friend and a strategic partner of Japan, Vietnam is delight at Japan's huge achievements obtained in reconstructing the country after it suffered from the disasters in March 2011. With its capability, Vietnam is ready to support Japan in these efforts, said the Vietnamese PM.

Japan is among Vietnam's largest foreign investors. The two- way trade turnover increased 30 percent last year, which contributed to both sides' development, he added.

Dung thanked the Japanese government's continued official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam in the context that the country is still facing many difficulties, and confirmed that Vietnam will use the loans effectively in implementing the country' s goals for development.

Vietnam and Japan should further promote their strategic partnership in a practical, efficient and sustainable way and exchange visits at different levels, including visits by the two countries' parliaments, he said.

Dung also recommended Japanese parliament's further assistance to Vietnam, including the ODA in infrastructure and response to climate change, encouragement of Japanese investors to do business in Vietnam in the form of public-private-partnership (PPP), in education and training, culture, defense, and exchange between the two peoples.

Besides promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation, the two sides should expand cooperation in energy, rare earth production and response to climate change areas that both sides have potentials in, said Hatoyama.

Hatoyama suggested Vietnam provide favorable conditions for Japanese businesses investing in Vietnam, confirming that he would contribute in developing the Japan-Vietnam comprehensive cooperation, especially in economy, trade, investment, education and assistance for development.
