South Korean President Lee Myung- bak and his Honduran counterpart Porfirio Lobo Sosa on Friday exchanged messages in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In their messages, the two leaders celebrated enhanced political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries and agreed to further expand their future-oriented relations, according to Lee's office Cheong Wa Dae.

Noting increasing investment by South Korean companies in Honduras, Lobo said bilateral cooperation will continue.

The 64-year-old Honduran leader last visited South Korea in February 2011.

Trade volume between the two countries stood at 176 million U.S. dollars in 2010.
