Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-22 16:55
Three soldiers were injured in a bomb blast in the restive southern province of Yala Tuesday noon while the deputy Prime Minister Gen Yuthasak Sasiprapha overseeing security affairs and the army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha were visiting the region.

Three soldiers from a special task force in Raman district were hurt in a bombing while they were patrolling on a local road connecting Yala and Pattani provinces. All have already been admitted to a hospital in the area.

The police said the instigator might want to threaten the army chief and the deputy premier visiting the region.

The army chief and the deputy premier along with other generals traveled to the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat Tuesday morning in order to examine the situation and clarify the government's 2012-2013 policies to local officials.

Since the resurgence of insurgency in January 2004, over 11,000 violent incidents have taken place in the southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat which were once part of independent sultanate of Pattani. In total, over 5,200 people were killed and nearly 8,000 wounded.
