| 1,200 Bangkok police to be deployed for Red-shirts rally |

Bangkok Metropolitan Police said Thursday that 1,200 police will be deployed during the Red-shirts gathering on Saturday.
Metropolitan Police spokesman Preeda Sathaworn elaborated the police security measure to deal with upcoming Red-shirts rally to commemorate the second anniversary of their anti-government demonstration being forcefully dispersed in May 2010.
The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), also known as Red-shirt movement, plans to hold a rally at Ratprasong intersection in the central business district of Bangkok to mark bloody crackdown on May 19, 2010.
From March 12 to May 19, 2010, Red-shirt protesters, which support the current ruling Pheu Thai party and ousted ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra, had staged a prolonged rally at Democracy Monument and Ratprasong intersection to demand the Democrat-led government dissolve parliament and call early elections.
As the government decided to forcefully disperse the protesters on April 10 and May 19, some 91 people were killed and nearly 2, 000 injured in clashes between security forces and demonstrators. |
