At least two people were injured when a blast went off outside a foreign consulate in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Monday morning, reported local Urdu TV channel Geo.

One of the injured was a member of Rangers, a paramilitary force in Pakistan, and the identity of the other injured is not known yet.

At least three motorbikes and one car were reportedly destroyed in the blast.

Local media said that the blast took place outside a Chinese consulate in the Clifton area of Karachi, but police said there were other foreign consulates near the blast site.

Sources from the Chinese side, who demanded anonymity, confirmed the blast near the Chinese consulate and said no Chinese were hurt in the blast.

Some local media said that the blast took place at a road barrier set up in front of the Chinese consulate and the bomb was fixed on a motorbike.

The blast took place at about 11:45 a.m. local time.

Police have cordone off the area and a search operation is underway.

Bomb disposal squad said that an estimated eight to ten kg of explosives were used in the bomb.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
