The United States is to close all its diplomatic mission offices in Indonesia on Friday over the threat of potential demonstration on anti-Muslim film that might be held outside the office, a statement from the U.S. embassy in Jakarta said on Thursday.

The embassy warned the U.S. citizen to avoid large crowds and gathering that might turn violence.

The film entitled "Innocence Muslim" produced by an American producer has triggered furious protest in global Muslim community, including in Indonesia, as it is considered to ridicule Prophet Muhammad.

"The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, the U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya, the American Presence Post in Medan, the U.S. Consular Agency in Bali, and the U.S. Mission to ASEAN will be closed tomorrow, Friday, September 21 because of the potential for significant demonstrations that might be held in front of these facilities," the statement said.

Muslims groups clashed with police outside U.S. embassy in Jakarta on Monday, and a petrol bomb was thrown outside the embassy. Eleven policemen and one protester were injured in the clash involving over 700 protesters. Police spread tear gas and waters from water canon to control the mass.

The U.S. consulate office in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra, was closed earlier on Wednesday after protesters blocked the road in front of the mission office and asked the U.S. government to punish the film producer.

Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country in which most of its 238 million population are Muslim, but most of them are moderate.
