Poll shows Thais confidence in PM

A clear majority of people have confidence in Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, according to a survey revealed on Wednesday, Bangkok Post online reported.

Noppadon Kannika, director of Abac Poll at Assumption University, revealed on Wednesday that the pollster conducted a real time survey during the censure debate from Nov 26-27, seeking opinions from 1,231 people in Bangkok, 16 other provinces across the country.

The poll seeked opinions of respondents toward the prime minister and three other ministers who were targeted by opposition party during censure debate which just ended Tuesday.

Noppadon said 68.6 percent of the respondents said they still have confidence in the prime minister, but 31.4 percent of them said they did not think so.

Some 56.1 percent gave a vote of confidence for Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, and 43.9 percent voted against him.

Deputy Interior Minister Chat Kuldilok was supported by 53.2 percent of the respondents, but 46.8 percent voted against him.

Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat received the lowest supporting votes, at 50.6 percent, while 49.4 percent, voted against him.

Nearly 69 percent of the respondents agreed the censure debate was constructive, and gave a satisfactory grade of 6.42 points out of ten to the opposition, and 6.34 points to the government side.

Asked about the reliability of information and evidence provided by the two sides during the debate, 43.5 percent of the people polled sided with the opposition, but 36.1 percent of them backed the government's version.

The censure debate took place from Sunday to Tuesday with a no- confidence vote on Wednesday morning. The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday in support of all the ministers.
