A special court in the Indian capital Monday charged the country's disgraced former Commonwealth Games chief Suresh Kalmadi and nine others in the mega sporting event scam that was exposed more than two-and-a-half years back.

The special court of India's premier probe agency the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) framed an array of charges, including that of corruption, cheating, conspiracy and causing loss to the country's exchequer, against Kalmadi and the nine others in the Commonwealth Games timing and scoring scam.

The next date of hearing was set for February 20.

The CBI has already filed a chargesheet against the 10 accused in the court.

According to the CBI chargesheet, Kalmadi and the other accused awarded the timing, scoring and results contract to a Swiss firm, named Swiss Timing, at an expensive rate, despite having a cheaper option, thus causing a massive loss to the exchequer.

A year after the scam came to light, Kalmadi was arrested in 2011. He was given bail by the High Court in the national capital after spending more than nine months in a jail.

Kalmadi, a lawmaker belonging to the country's ruling Congress party, has denied any wrongdoing.
