Myanmar president meets Japan's self-defense forces chief

Myanmar President U Thein Sein met Wednesday with visiting Chief of Staff of Japan's Self-Defense Forces General Shigeru Iwasaki in Nay Pyi Taw, said the president' s office.

At the meeting, the pair had discussions on Myanmar-Japan friendship and cooperation and Japan's support of technology and loan to Myanmar.

They also touched on cooperation between the two countries' armed forces in addition to that between the two governments.

On Tuesday, Myanmar Defense Chief Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing also met with Shigeru with the two military leaders vowing to strengthen military cooperation.

The year 2014 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Japan.

Myanmar will host the first ASEAN-Japan Defense Chiefs Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw in November this year.
