Four people were confirmed killed in a light-engine plane crash in Russia's central Kaluga Region on Friday evening, according to the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.

The SM 2000 turboprop plane went down in the Maloyaroslavets district of Kaluga Region at 8:13 p.m. Moscow time (1613 GMT), the regional emergency situations department was quoted as saying by the Itar-Tass news agency.

"According to the updated information, there were four people onboard. All of them died in the crash," it said.

The SM 2000, produced by the Smolensk Aircraft Plant in western Russia, is a light multipurpose six-seat, single-engine aircraft.

The cause of the accident remains unknown and an investigation is under way.

It was the third aircraft crash in Russia on Friday. Earlier in the day, a Bell-407 chopper went down in the Nizhnekamsk Region of Tatarstan Republic in central Russia, killing the pilot. Later, another helicopter crashed in northwestern Russia with four people onboard. The four luckily survived, but are in critical condition.
