Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-19 13:36

Parliamentary elections in Belarus will be held on September 23, 2012, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Monday.

Lukashenko said that the parliamentary elections in Belarus are not only the most important political event, but also a test for the current government.

"We won't conform to anyone from the outside. Elections are held for the Belarusian people and solely in the interest of the nation," the Belarusian President said. He stressed that Belarus, as a sovereign state, will not accept any interference.

Lukashenko also said that "it is important to hold honest and open elections strictly in accordance with the Belarusian legislation, ensuring the will of the people".

According to the President, illegal actions and political provocations aimed to destabilize the country should be prevented immediately while the perpetrators should be brought to justice.
