Ukraine urges Russia to jointly tackle financial crisis
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-28 11:27

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Wednesday urged Russia to undertake coordinated action with his country to tackle the ongoing global financial crisis.

"As the strategic partners, we must think of our joint solutions in the integration issues. The growth of our economies and the budget revenues will depend on the coordination of this work," Yanukovych said during a meeting with visiting Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Yanukovych said that Ukraine stands ready to work with Russia to further deepen their bilateral strategic partnership to minimize the problems that may arise in their economies.

He stressed the importance of joint work on sensitive issues to advance the Kiev-Moscow relationship on the correct course, adding that the so-called "gas issue" remains one of the main questions on the agenda.

Medvedev, for his part, said that Moscow and Kiev will have to make "tough economic decisions" considering the current financial crisis.

"We don't have a simple economic future. We have to make decisions that can be hard, sometimes extraordinary, to support our economies," Medvedev said.

Russia, Medvedev said, is willing to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with Ukraine in key areas such as technology, manufacturing and energy.
