Azerbaijan sends humanitarian aid to Russia's flood-afflicted region
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-10 14:57

Azerbaijan has sent humanitarian aid convoy to Russia's southern Krasnodar region that is suffering from devastating flood, spokesman for Azerbaijan's Ministry of Emergency Situations Aslan Huseynov told journalists on Monday.

The humanitarian aid including drinking-water, juices and other necessary food products was loaded in 22 emergency vehicles and sent to Krasnodar city Sunday night. A total of 38 rescuers were also sent to Russia with the convoy.

Russia's Krasnodar region was hit by flood last Friday following torrential rains. More than 170 people died and 25,000 people were affected in the town of Krymsk and neighboring cities of Gelendzhik and Novorossiisk. The floods have disrupted local power, gas and water supply lines, automobile and rail communication.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed his deep sympathy to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin over the natural disaster.

Krymsk is about 200 kilometers northwest of the Black Sea resort of Sochi, where Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
