The first Dutch euro coins with the image of the country's new King Willem-Alexander were produced on Wednesday in Utrecht.

The King, who succeeded his mother Beatrix on April 30 last year, was present at the ceremony at the Royal Dutch Mint, along with State Secretary of Finance Frans Weekers and designer Erwin Olaf.

The image was already unveiled in October last year.

The face of the King on the coin consists of surfaces.

"Based on the parceled Dutch landscape and also symbolizing the diversity of the population of our country at the present time," said the Royal Dutch Mint, where the coins are produced.

The eight coins have values of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 euro cents and 1 and 2 euros. The 1 and 2 cent coins are only available in sets for collectors.

The new coins will be spread on Thursday, while the old coins with former Queen Beatrix remain valid.
