Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday urged international powers to stay from interfering into the internal affairs of Ukraine.

"More intermediaries there are, the more problems there are," Putin told the press conference after his meeting with the top leaders of the European Union (EU), Herman Van Rompuy and Jose Manuel Barroso.

Putin also vowed that Russia will never interfere in the Ukrainian internal issues.

Putin started his visit to the EU headquarters on Monday evening, and participated on Tuesday the 32nd Russia-EU summit, which was truncated to one day from the usual two days and without a traditional dinner presented by his EU counterpart.

The comments referred to the series of diplomatic actions of the western powers including the EU and the U.S. in the wake of protests in Ukraine in recent week.

The EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton was leaving for Kiev immediately after the EU-Russia summit, while the EU commissioner in charge of enlargement Stefan Fule was also in Kiev for his second visit to the country in four days. The assistant U.S. Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and the U.S. Senator John McCain also told protesters in Kiev that the U.S. stood with them.

But the EU leaders tried to make Putin believe that the bloc's enlargement process involving the former Soviet Union republics was not meant to poach on Russia's interest.

"The benefits of the Eastern Partnership are for all our Eastern neighbors including Russia," said Van Rompuy at the press conference, "A more stable economic and institutional environment, improved market access and intensified trade relations will strengthen demand and create new business opportunities for all. Russian companies are well placed to benefit from these new opportunities."

"I made it clear that the Eastern Partnership does not affect Russia's economic, trade, social, human and cultural links to many of our common neighbors," he added, "These links will not be put at risk, but on the contrary, stimulated by more dynamic and successful economic development in the partner countries."

Putin insisted that the EU's Eastern Partnership shouldn't come at the expense of Russia's economy, and the Ukrainians have the capability to solve their own problems.

No agreements were signed during the summit apart from a joint statement on combating and preventing terrorism.
