LJUBLJANA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Slovenian police said on Thursday they had busted a three-person group smuggling amphetamine from the Netherlands to Slovenia and Croatia.

Some 12.5 kilograms of amphetamine and 200 grams of heroine were seized when the police began an investigation against the alleged people in December 2013.

The drug smugglers smuggled at least 50 kilos of amphetamine to be sold in Slovenia and its neighboring Croatia.

The seized amphetamine would have fetched the group at least 240,000 euros (299,286 U.S. dollars) on the market, said the police.

Amphetamine is a strong central nerve system stimulant that can cause a lot of harm to the body when abused.

As its chemical structure is similar to methamphetamine, amphetamine it is heavily regulated, or outright banned in many countries.
