Iran considers natural gas export increase to Turkey
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-11 03:14

Iran is currently considering to increase its natural gas export to Turkey, a spokesman for the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) was quoted by the local satellite Press TV as saying on Friday.

"If Turkey's gas supply network has enough capacity to receive more gas, Tehran is ready to give more gas to Ankara," Majid Boujarzadeh said.

Referring to the recent request by the Turkish Botas Company for buying more gas from Iran, Boujarzadeh said that the demand is being considered by NIGC officials.

Iran is currently exporting 30 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey on daily basis, the official said.

Iran holds one of the major natural gas reserves in the world. The South Pars/North Dome field is a natural gas condensate field located in the Persian Gulf.

As the world's largest gas field, it is shared between Iran and Qatar. According to the International Energy Agency, the field holds an estimated 50.97 trillion cubic meters of in-situ gas and some 50 billion barrels of condensate. According to local media, Iran's share of the field has 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) resources.
