Israel's Kadima party to vote for party leader
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-27 05:21

As Israel's Kadima party sets to begin its primaries, candidates for the party's leadership, Tzipi Livni and Shaul Mofaz, spoke on Monday about their goals for the party one day ahead of the elections.

In their speeches, both candidates talked about national unity and lashed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

"Elections in Israel have become about who gets which portfolio. There are no disagreements and ideology anymore. This government must be replaced," Livni said during a meeting at the Mazorti ( conservative Judaism) movement.

Livni also criticized her opponent, saying that if he were to win on Tuesday, he would probably join a Netanyahu-led coalition in the government and turn Kadima away from its values, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Mofaz, who also spoke at the meeting, stressed the need for social cohesion in Israel.

"We must return the country's unity. We should have one law for everyone. We're composed of many tribes, and every tribe follows the laws as it sees fit. That's why we're not a strong society."

Mofaz said that he considers Netanyahu's government bad for Israel and intends to stand up against it.

"Kadima is the party that will put Israel back on the right path," Mofaz said, stressing that he is confident on winning the party's leadership on Tuesday.
