Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-31 00:29

A Palestinian youth was killed shortly after he was wounded by Israeli gunfire during clashes in northern the Gaza Strip on Friday, medical sources said.

Adham Abu Selmia, an ambulance spokesperson, said the slain, Mahmoud Zaqout, 20, was seriously wounded by Israeli fire near Erez crossing point between Gaza and Israel.

He died shortly after he arrived at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, Abu Selmia said, adding that the final toll of injuries in the Gaza Strip stood at 30.

Most of the injured Palestinians were shot while throwing stones at Israeli forces at Erez crossing.

Palestinian demonstrators marking the 36-year-anniversary of Land Day on Friday in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip clashed with the Israeli security forces, leaving dozens injured.

Land Day commemorates the killing of six Arabs during violent protests in 1976 against Israel's practice of expropriating Arab lands in northern Israel to build Jewish settlements.
