The Hamas-run energy authority announced Wednesday that Israeli diesel has arrived in Gaza to fuel the Palestinian enclave's only power station that has been off and on after smuggled Egyptian fuel became scarce.
The delivery of the fuel came a day after Hamas agreed with the West Bank-based Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to buy Israeli fuel. Abu Al-Amrin of the energy authority said some 410, 000 liters of diesel will be shipped to Gaza according to the deal.
As a first step of the deal, Hamas sent 2 million Israeli Shekel to the PNA Tuesday as its payment to Israel.
The power station was shut down for the fourth time in less than three month due to a lack of fuel, causing a shortage failing 70 percent of the demand and a daily 12-hour outage.
Hamas has said the deal was only "a partial solution" and is working to restore the transportation of cheaper Egyptian fuel to Gaza with the Egyptian government. |
