Palestinian official cautions not to count on Netanyahu's answer to Abbas' letter
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-23 20:36

A senior Palestinian official on Monday cautioned not to count too much on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's answer to President Mahmoud Abbas' political letter last week.

Hanan Ashrawi, Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) member told the Voice of Palestine Radio that instead of counting and waiting for Netanyahu's answer, the Palestinians should immediately start their larger diplomatic moves.

"The Israeli government's answer was sent in advance to the Palestinians through adopting an Israeli fanatic policy based on settlement activities and on political stubbornness," said Ashrawi.

On Tuesday, an official Palestinian delegation handed Netanyahu the political letter from President Abbas, which warned Israel of keeping the peace process stalled. The Palestinians are still waiting for Netanyahu's answer.

Ashrawi called on the Palestinian leadership to go to the institutions and organizations of the United Nations and keep the pressure on the international community to held Israel responsible for the current situation.

Abbas' letter included four major demands, including accepting the principle of the two-state solution according to 1967 borders with a possibility of a slight territorial exchange, stopping all settlement activities, even in east Jerusalem.

Abbas also demanded Netanyahu to free all the Palestinian prisoners who were arrested and tried before Israel and the Palestinians signed the Oslo peace accords in 1993 and annulling all security measures taken after September, 2000.

Netanyahu office announced that the answer to the Palestinian letter will be made after two weeks. However, Palestinian officials warned that if the answer is negative, the Palestinians would go for the bid of full UN recognition of a Palestinian state.
