U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly reiterated Tuesday the United States' commitment to "a stable, sovereign and independent Lebanon."

According to a statement issued by the U.S. embassy in Lebanon, Connelly held talks Tuesday with Internal Security Forces (ISF) general director Ashraf Rifi on the security situation in Lebanon.

Connelly expressed the United States' dedication to assist the ISF to develop into a modern professional police force that serves and protects all of Lebanon's citizens.

The statement added that the U.S. diplomat "voiced the United States' appreciation for the efforts of the ISF and the Lebanese army to work together to maintain calm in Lebanon."

The ambassador renewed the commitment of the United States to a stable, sovereign and independent Lebanon.
