The Iranian law enforcement police squads have seized over two tons of opium in the country's southern province of Hormuzgan on the rims of the Persian Gulf, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Saturday.
"A vessel loaded with over two tons of drugs was seized in Hormuzgan province as a result of the efforts made by the provincial border guards and anti-drug squads (of the Iranian Law Enforcement Police)," Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Border Guard Unit Colonel Habibollah Mardanpour was quoted as saying without further details.
Iran is located at the crossroad of the international drug smuggling route from Afghanistan, the world's top opium producer, to Europe. |
