Explosive device tears through Syria's state TV building, injuring 3
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-06 15:10

An explosive device tore through the 3rd floor of Syria's state-run building in Damascus on Monday, causing three slight injuries, the state media said.

The TV showed live images of the blasted floor, with piles of debris and torn and charred walls. The TV workers were franticly searching the debris for survivors.

The Minister of Information appeared at the site joining the TV staff in searching the ravaged floor.

Omran Al-Zoubi said an investigation is underway to disclose the circumstances of the blast that was caused by an improvised explosive device.

Zoubi said all the TV staff are fine except for the three who were slightly injured.

The brazen attack is the first of its kind to hit the heavily- fortified state establishment in the very core.

It wasn't immediate clear how the bomb was delivered inside the building, which is also located in the Ummayad Square, the symbolic center of the capital Damascus that is flanked by the Army headquarters and the state media building.

A couple of days ago, the Western-backed armed rebels said they have taken over the state TV Center in northern Aleppo province. The Syrian government, however, denied the claims and said the armed insurgents' attempt was rendered flat after the Syrian army confronted them.

The armed rebels seem determined to hit the state media, which has recently been airing reports of foreign intellegence's as well as jihadists' infiltration into Syria to help the rebels.

Furthermore, a number of Syrian journalists of the state media have also been kidnapped recently, one of whom was Mohammad Saeed, who had been reportedly killed by al-Qaida-linked group.

Internationally, the West and their Arab allies have imposed many sanctions on the Syrian media, banning their broadcast on the Arabsat, and Nilesat satellite operators.

Last month, armed rebels blasted the headquarters of the pro- government al-Ekhbaria TV just outside Damascus, in which seven people of the TV staff and security guards were slaughtered.

Syria accuses the West and their armed insurgents on ground of attempting to silence the voices of Syrians.
