Lebanese president hails "warding off danger threatening Lebanon"

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman hailed on Saturday the Internal Security Forces (ISF) for "warding off the danger threatening Lebanon," referring to the arrest of former Information minister and MP Michel Samaha, the National News Agency reported.

The ISFs' intelligence branch arrested Samaha on Thursday morning "for security reasons." Samaha was suspected of involving in the transportation of explosives fromSyriato carry out bombing attacks in Lebanon.

Suleiman's remarks came during talks with Ashraf Rifi, head of the ISF, and Wissam al-Hassan, who heads the ISF intelligence branch.

The two security officials briefed the president on the ongoing investigation with Samaha.

In a related development, Samaha was referred Saturday to the Military Tribunal, and the acting military prosecutor has issued a warrant of arrest against him.
