Expert-level NAM meeting opens in Tehran

The expert-level meeting of the 16th Non-aligned Movement(NAM) summit opened here on Sunday.

The NAM summit will be held in Tehran from Aug. 26 to Aug. 31, while heads of state and government will meet on Aug. 30-31.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said in the opening ceremony that during the next years of Iran's presidency over the NAM, the Islamic republic is determined to strengthen unity among the member states of this organization.

Salehi said that Iran is resolved to turn the 120-member NAM into an efficient body.

Representatives from more than 100 countries have gathered in Tehran to discuss the new challenges that the world faces today, he added.

Founded in the former Yugoslavia in 1961, the NAM represents nearly two-thirds of the UN members and about 55 percent of the world population. 



Three issues to be highlighted in NAM summit

The 16th summit of heads of states or governments of the Non-Aligned Movement(NAM) will be held on Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 in Tehran and is expected be attended by heads or high-ranking officials from more than 100 countries.

Haneya not to attend NAM Summit in Tehran: Hamas

Iran's proposal on Syria to be discussed at NAM meeting

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Saturday that Iran will present a" comprehensive" proposal to solve Syrian crisis and it will be discussed on the sidelines of the 16th Non-aligned Movement(NAM) meeting to be opened in Tehran on Aug. 26.
