Iran to be on brink of nuclear weapons capability by mid-2013
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-09-17 11:10

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Sunday that by mid-2013 Iran would have 90 percent of enriched uranium required for a nuclear bomb.

Speaking in an interview with a U.S. television, Netanyahu also repeated his demand for Washington to draw a "red line" over Iran' s controversial nuclear program.

"You have to place that red line before them (Iran) now, before it's too late," the Israeli leader told NBC's "Meet the Press" program, quoted by Israeli media.

He stressed that such a red line would reduce the chances of a military attack on Iranian nuclear sites.

Netanyahu has repeatedly warned that Israel will have to unilaterally launch a military operation against Iranian nuclear sites. Israel, along with the United States and some other Western nations, has long accused Iran of secretly seeking nuclear weapons capability, an accusation Iran has vehemently denied. Iran insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful medical and energy purposes.

The U.S. administration has so far refused to heed Netanyahu's calls for spelling out clear limits to Tehran over its nuclear program.
