HAMAS IS CONCERNED

Islamic Hamas movement, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip since violently seizing control of it in June 2007, is seriously considering the recent Israeli threats to wage a large-scale war to stop rockets attacks.

Hamas is concerned that a new Israeli war may topple its rule of the coastal enclave.

"Hamas is confronting a Zionist enemy and doesn't confront a neighboring state that respects human rights. This Zionist entity is an enemy that believes in murder and practicing terrorism," Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said. "We seriously consider the threats of the raciest Israeli government."

Barhoum told Xinhua that he is not in Egypt's shoes to say if a war on Gaza would drag Egypt into a war with Israel or not, "but certainly the new changes in the Arab region would not give Israel a free hand to wage a war on Gaza, and Israel dares not to do so now as it used to do in the past."
