Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said the country will observe a holiday on Sunday due to the heavy snow, the state-run Petra news agency reported on Saturday.

All banks will also be closed on Sunday, according to a decision by the Central Bank of Jordan announced Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry said public and private schools will be closed Sunday due to the heavy snow.

Major roads across the country were partially open by Saturday afternoon as the authorities continued to struggle to reopen the roads blocked by snow.

More than 150,000 cars were stranded in the country's streets Friday midnight due to the heavy snowfall that blacked all roads in major cities across Jordan.

The Public Security Department urged citizens not to leave their houses due to the dangerous conditions and the slippery roads across the country, calling on the citizens not to hamper the work of teams working on removing snow piles from streets by staying at home.

On Thursday night, heavy snow caused repeated power cuts across Jordan affected by snowstorm Alexa, which also brought snow in Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, Palestine and Syria.
