The international airport of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital was affected early Thursday by dense fog, with scores of flights diverted to other airports in the region.
"As a result of the extreme low visibility conditions at Abu Dhabi International Airport this morning, 37 aircraft were diverted to other airports in the region," the airport said in a statement on its website.
"All parties at the airport are working together toward minimizing the disruption to all travelers," the statement said.
Dense fog in the morning reduced visibility to below 50 meters in most parts of the Gulf Arab state. It was replaced later in the day by humidity which continued to weigh on air traffic.
Flights at Abu Dhabi's two neighboring airports in Dubai were also affected.
Weather conditions have since improved and the airports are reportedly receiving inbound flights.
