At least 13 people were killed and 46 others injured in two separate bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Monday morning, a police source said.

In one of the attacks, a suicide bomber detonated the explosive vest on him at the crowded Adan Square in Baghdad's northern district of Kadhmiyah, leaving at least 12 killed and 42 wounded, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In the other attack, a roadside bomb went off in the Husseiniyah district in the northeastern part of Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding four others, the source said.

The toll could rise as ambulances and police vehicles evacuated the casualties to nearby hospitals and medical centers in both attacks, the source added.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years. Terrorism and violence killed at least 12,282 civilians and injured 23,126 others in 2014, making it the deadliest year since the sectarian violence in the 2006-2007 period, according to a recent U.N. report.
