To enjoy the match even if leg broken: Scott Evans
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-07-27 10:59

Unheralded shuttler Scott Evans of Ireland said Thursday that he will enjoy his London Olympics opener with Chinese badminton superstar Lin Dan even if his leg is broken on the court.

World No. 76 Evans is drawn into men's singles Group P together with reigning champion and currently world No. 1 Lin, which means the 25-year-old Irish has almost no chance to enter the top 16. However, Evans keeps a positive mind.

"When you go into the Olympics there are no easy games. If I want to win a medal then I'll have to beat Lin Dan whether now or in the final. It'd have to happen. I'm tired of people being negative about it. You have to be positive," he said.

Evans lost all of the previous three matches against Lin, including the second-round encounter in last year's London world championships at the Wembley Arena, the same place where the Olympics badminton competition will take place.

"I've played Lin Dan a few times before so I know what he can do," Evans said.

"I'll prepare like I do for any other game, making sure that I'm mentally ready, go out, enjoy myself and embrace it - even if I break my leg on court, I'll enjoy it."

Evans and Lin's match is on Monday while the Olympic badminton competition will start on Saturday.
