Sven Kramer defended his 5,000 meters speed skating title in an Olympic record time at the Adler Arena on Saturday.

Kramer, 27, eased to the victory in six minutes and 10.76 seconds, beating his own record of 6:14.60 set in Vancouver four years ago.

Norway was the last NOC to claim all three medals in this event in 1964.

Jan Blokhuijsen came second in 6:15.71 and Jorrit Bergsma took bronze in 6:16.66.

Kramer became only the second male skater to win the 5,000m event at successive Olympic Winter Games, after Tomas Gustafson of Sweden in 1984 and 1988.
