The public wage bill holds 14.1 percent of Tunisia's GDP in fiscal year 2019 based on the new finance law, Tunisian Institute of Strategic Studies (ITES) said on Sunday.

A recent ITES study indicated the Tunisian public wage bill has increased significantly from 7.68 billion dinars (2.73 billion U.S. dollars) in 2011 to 13.7 billion dinars in 2017.

The number of public service employees has increased to reach 690,000 employees.

The International Monetary Fund has warned about the rise in the public sector wage bill in Tunisia, among the highest in the world.
