Two Uber passengers were wounded when a shooter opened fire on a busy road in Dallas, Texas, the United States, police said Tuesday.

The passengers, who weren't targeted in the shooting, suffered non-life threatening wounds, police said. One was shot in the head and the other was shot in the leg.

The shooting was reported around 11:50 a.m. near an Exxon gas station in northwest Dallas. The passengers were being dropped off at the gas station as a shooter in a white Chevrolet Malibu fired bullets toward two other people taking cover inside, police said.

A man and a woman were heading east on Northwest Highway in a black car when the white Chevrolet Malibu pulled beside them and opened fire, they told police. The man and woman jumped out of their car, ran inside a gas station and asked the clerks to lock the doors.

The gunman then circled around the gas station several times before returning to the black car and shot several more rounds into the vehicle. While he was circling the gas station, he shot at other two cars. As the shooter fired, bullets struck the two Uber passengers, who were getting out of a car in the gas station parking lot.

The shooter fled the scene before police arrived. Officers were still searching for the shooter Tuesday afternoon.
