Yosemite National Park rangers have recovered the bodies of two visitors who fell 800 feet (245 meters) from a popular overlook, said a release of the park on Friday.
The recovery operation was completed on Thursday after working to reach the two deceased for hours.
"The two people fell approximately 800 feet below Taft Point in an area with very steep terrain," said the release.
This recovery operation involved Park Rangers using technical climbing and rappelling techniques, in addition to helicopter support from the California Highway Patrol for a short-haul operation.
The identification of the deceased has not been determined yet. It will take at least several days to offer further details, according to the park.
Yosemite is located in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. Taft Point is a popular hiking destination with views of Yosemite Falls. At its peak, Taft Point's elevation is more than 7,000 feet (2,133 meters).
