Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-16 09:14

Chabad House, a major Jewish meeting place in the Indian capital, has been closed for non-Israelis after Monday's bombing attack upon an Israeli embassy in which the wife of an Israeli defense attache was injured, local daily The Tribune reported Wednesday.

Security has been beefed up at Chabad House in Paharganj, where the resident rabbi Tuesday began barring non-Israelis from entry, said the newspaper.

Police also began checking bags and passports of the people at the entrance.

Israelis come to India in large numbers as backpackers and tourists. They visit Chabad House to celebrate special occasions such as passover.

Chabad Houses serve as Jewish community centers across the world and provide educational and social activities, with its headquarters in New York.
