A total of 5,086 people were killed after the insurgency in the restive deep South flared up eight years ago, a university announced Tuesday, The Nation online reported.
The Deep South Watch, a center of Songkhla University to monitor the conflict in the three southern-most provinces dominated by Muslims, revealed the figures at a press conference held on Tuesday.
The center said apart from more than 5,000 deaths, there were 8, 485 others injured in the conflict which had been going on for over eight years since it flared up with gun robbery from a military camp in January 2004. |
