Thai airports brace for more flights during Songkran

Thailand's airports are preparing to serve more flights during the 10-day Songkran Festival, Thai traditional New Year or also known as water festival, according to Airports of Thailand (AoT) Public Company on Thursday.

From April 9-18, many airlines asked for more flights, particularly at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Phuket International Airport, AoT President Anirut Thanomkulbutr said.

Thanomkulbutr said that there will be some 9,400 more flights at Suvarnabhumi International Airport -- 6,800 international flights and 2,600 domestic flights -- during the ten-day period with an increasing number of passengers of about 1.7 million.

Phuket International Airport will be handling with 124 additional flights while Chiang Mai Airport will see 16 additional flights with an increase of 4,100 passengers.
