India's Congress heavyweight and former finance minister Pranab Mukherjee has been elected the 13th president of India, according to the outcome of official accounts of votes Sunday.
Mukherjee has won more than 558,000 votes against 240,000 votes by his rival presidential candidate P.A. Sangma according to accounts of vote as of 16:30 local time, said local TV channel Times Now.
By winning this number of votes from the lawmakers of the national and state assemblies, Mukherjee has been secured the presidential seat. |
