Indian police have imposed indefinite curfew in the northeast state of Assam's troubled Kokrajhar district Thursday, as six people were killed in renewed violence over the past week, said police.
Suspected militants shot dead a man and stabbed another Wednesday, raising the toll to six while six others were seriously injured in the Kokrajhar and Baksa districts of the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts.
The army, which was called in Wednesday night to handle the situation, carried out a flag march in all sensitive areas of Kokrajhar Thursday, according to Indo-Asian News Service.
Over 100 people were killed in communal violence between Muslim immigrants and ethnic Bodo people in August this year, leading to widespread exodus of northeast Indian people from some other major cities of India over threat of revenge by Muslims. |
