S.Korea's ICT export keeps double-digit growth for 20 months

South Korea's export of information and telecommunications technology (ICT) products kept a double-digit growth for 20 months through July, a government report showed Thursday.

The ICT export advanced 18.2 percent over the year to 18.56 billion U.S. dollars in July, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. It kept rising by a double digit since December 2016.

Semiconductor export jumped 30.2 percent to 10.47 billion dollars, topping 10 billion dollars for the third straight month. Demand continued for chips used for server and smartphone.

Display panel shipment rose 2.6 percent to 2.51 billion dollars on demand for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel.

Mobile phone export increased 6.8 percent to 1.35 billion dollars on demand for premium smartphones, and those for computer and peripherals expanded 10 percent to 930 million dollars.

By region, ICT export to China, South Korea's biggest trading partner, jumped 26.1 percent to 10.16 billion dollars in July on demand for chips, computer and peripherals.

Export to Vietnam gained 10.8 percent to 2.25 billion dollars, and ICT shipment to the United States climbed 19.2 percent to 1.7 billion dollars.

The ICT import grew 9.8 percent to 9.1 billion dollars, sending the ICT trade surplus to 9.46 billion dollars in July.
