Norway is considering to give special privileges to commodities exported by Myanmar following the lifting of economic sanctions on the country, official media reported Thursday.
The measure will be a follow-up of the lifting of the economic sanctions against Myanmar where Norwegian companies were not allowed to operate businesses, the New Light of Myanmar quoted visiting Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store as saying.
In a meeting with Myanmar's Speaker of the House of Representatives U Shwe Mann on Wednesday, the Norwegian foreign minister expressed his satisfaction over Myanmar's democratization process.
The pair vowed to promote bilateral ties and cooperation between parliaments of the two countries, the report said.
Norway announced a decision earlier this month to lift trade and investment sanctions it have imposed on Myanmar which restricts private Norwegian companies from doing business with and investing in the country.
Norway made the decision following Myanmar's recent democratization move including the release of hundreds of prisoners of conscience. |
