Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo on Tuesday said Madrid has suspended the operation of the Spanish Embassy to Syria.
Garcia-Margallo made the announcement in the Spanish Senate, saying the decision was made in protest of the ongoing violence in Syria.
"What is happening in Syria is unacceptable," said Garcia-Margallo.
He said staff at the Spanish embassy would join the European Union delegation in Damascus, where they would continue to protect the interests of Spanish citizens in the country.
Spain recalled its ambassador to Damascus for consultations on February 7. |
